Hmm, I sense a hint of frustration...;) Your colorful metaphors (ala "robbing a 7-11") crack me up.

Good to see that Andy is back to his curmudgeonly ways in California. I'm sure the Bay Area has missed it.

As an aside, the HOA cannot say anything about television antennae. Though in the Peoples Republic of California, they might think they trump the FCC.

I got a directional, amplified UHF/VHF indoor antenna. Because of the condo complex I'm in, getting an outdoor antenna would be a major headache in red tape (home owners association has to approve it, the landlord has to approve it, etc).

The one I got seems to work pretty good, only I can't get any CBS stations. But I can't get it over analog off-air either. I think there's a big hill in between me and their tower (I'm in the East Bay).

But I do seriously get about 10 PBS stations (three networks that have 3 or 4 channels apiece).

All the Digital/HD channels in the Bay Area are on UHF.. I hope you ordered an appropriate antenna. A radio shack double bowtie or channelmaster 4-bay bowtie (Sometimes avaiable at Fry's) are great. Just point it at Mt. Sutro, and you're all set.
